5 for friday

this is the first '5 for friday' post: something new i'd like to share once a week.

this week's 5 for friday:

5 things i'd like to learn to do within 5 years
  • loom weaving
  • care for angora rabbits and prep their fiber for spinning
  • bake the perfect loaf of bread
  • be proficient in soldering and brazing
  • sew clothes for myself
your turn..
what are 5 things you'd like to learn to do within 5 years?

a felt-tastic music video

need a sunny friday pick-me-up?

thanks, craftster, for sharing this clip!

it's a They Might Be Giants cover of a 1960's song called "why does the sun shine?" and it features stop animation with felted creatures.

what fun to watch!
catchy, too...
..the sun is a mass of incandescent gas..

snapshot: at the art walk

this year's southeast portland art walk was a lot of fun. i had a table outside this year, whereas in the past i've been stationed inside artists' homes.

the weather couldn't have been nicer! along with plenty of sunshine, i was inundated with cherry blossoms all weekend. a bit irritating, but some customers said that it added to the 'all natural' look of my displays.

the sunshine did make taking pictures more difficult, hence the lack of quality photos. but if you look closely, you can see a couple of new items i haven't listed online yet.

blogger pages

happy friday! spring is (more or less) here!

a couple of months ago, i was considering the switch to wordpress for my blog content. i've decided to stay with blogger for various reasons, one of them being blogger's new 'pages' feature.

i've added a few links as a navigation bar above to utilize this feature and set up some more focused pages. this will help me better be able to share things with you such as specific ordering information and great diy tutorials.

it has also helped me clean up my side bars a little, and now i'm wondering:

should i keep both sidebars, or condense the content to 1 sidebar?

let me know what you think!

i'll be set up at hankin's hardware on 17th and hawthorne.
stop by and say hi... i've got a few new items!

let's hope for plenty of sunshine...

(oops! i didn't make it onto the map this time, but i'm at #4!)

spotlight: This Year's Dozen finishes 101 crochet squares!

Donna of This Year's Dozen has undertaken quite a large project: to crochet 101 granny squares!

armed with the book 101 Crochet Squares by Jean Leinhauser and a bunch of colorful acrylic yarn, she's gone through the creation of every single pattern in the book and documented her progress along the way. on her blog, donna posts each square she's completed, along with some in-progress shots and tips about what she's learned along the way.

she started last may, and today she posted the last square: her 101st square. congratulations, donna!

CLICK HERE to see her photo gallery of all 101 squares.

it's been so much fun to follow along with her during this project. and impossible for me to pick a favorite! i wonder what's next from the This Year's Dozen blog?
